About Tia L. Barcelona

I am so excited and eager to begin my fourth year with La Vega Early College High School (LVECHS) and La Vega High School (LVHS) AVID Program! It is always an honor to work with amazing high school students with their academic success and planning their college and/or career journey after high school!
As we embark on this journey together, Your role, as a student, parent/guardian, or colleague, is IMPORTANT and NEEDED in order to work in unison for your student's academic, professional, and personal process because as a united TEAM, we understand it takes all of us working together, toward the same goal(s): "student achievement via academic and personal success!
The 2020-2021 school year comes with new leadership opportunities for me serving in my new role as the "new" LVHS Dual Credit (DC) Facilitator for all ECHS students, current and future enrollees. I will work directly with LVECHS student academic needs on all three campuses: MCC, TSTC, and LVHS. Besides, I will prepare students for their college and career readiness journey; as well as, serve as the LVHS AVID Facilitator and Elective Teacher in addition to my extracurricular leadership responsibilities. I proudly will be serving students and educators as the campus UIL "Academic" Coordinator and National Honor Society (NHS) Advisor.
Success is achieved through determination, grit and perseverance! My educational achievements in 2002 started a new road in August 2002, when I earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree ~ majoring in Communications from the University of Houston at Clear Lake.
My post-secondary academic success paved the way for new career advancement opportunities, and eventually to my education career path.  I had other "Corporate America" careers before 2005.  Now, 15 years later, my secondary educational career began and continues in McLennan County and I cannot imagine another place to be!
My various leadership and academic responsibilities have created a strong foundation as an educator for which I am passionate and dedicated to every day (i.e. Professional Communications Instructor, Speech and Debate Coach in several debate circuits: NSDA, TFA, and UIL; Student Council Advisor, Broadcast Journalism instructor, among others.)
My final road on my journey leads to my community-service involvement. It all centers around educational support, "Benefiting youth, by supporting" I currently serve on the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) Speakers Committee, Captain of the Business Speech Team. As a lifetime member, I have served over 25 years volunteering for the HLSR and 16 years serving on the HLSR Speakers Committee.

In summary, enhancing students' organizational skills, communication skills, and conflict management skills by learning appropriate and proper communication styles that will benefit students tremendously both personally and professionally.

As you can see, I have an infinite journey, and all my roads lead to the same goal, "providing "EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES" by putting scholastic needs first, then college and career readiness experiences, and finally a "hands-on" engaging "community service" opportunities that shadow as a wonderful real-world teaching and learning environment!
