Administration
James Villa, Principal
First and foremost, I am honored to serve as the new principal of La Vega High School. I am excited to continue the many great initiatives that were carried out last year as I served the school in the capacity of Cohort Principal for the class of 2025, and look forward to bringing new ideas and programs as we move the campus towards being a flagship high school in central Texas. Prior to being an administrator at La Vega High School, I served as an Instructional Technology Specialist for La Vega ISD and taught secondary science courses for eight years.
I received my Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, with an emphasis on instructional design and technology, from Tarleton State University in 2019. I received my Bachelor of Arts from Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri, in 2011. Prior to becoming an educator, I managed a local business and served in the United States Marine Corps. I have been happily married for 18 years, and my wife and I have been blessed with five daughters and three sons.
As an instructional leader, it is my belief that every child is capable of learning at high levels and deserves highly effective teachers and school leaders. My vision for La Vega High School is that each student that walks through our doors is developed intellectually, creatively, socially, and physically, in order to become confident and capable citizens that take pride in themselves and find purpose in serving the needs of their community, country, and world.

Jeanne Gravitt, Dean of Advanced Studies
My name is Jeanne Gravitt and I am excited to be the Dean of Advanced Studies at La Vega ISD. With the vision of Dr. Sharon Shields, Superintendent, the support of Dr. Charla Rudd, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, and support from our School Board, we have established a sequence that will enable students in this program to obtain up to 60 tuition-free college hours which can very realistically translate into an associates degree at the same time they receive their high school diplomas. Last year, La Vega ECHS graduated the very first cohort. Seven of those students received their Associates Degree from MCC while others obtained many college hours that will transfer to their preferred college.
Our expectations are high for these students and they are continuing to work hard to reach those expectations. We are looking forward to a great year!
